Pakistan and Turkey reached landmark Defense agreement

ANKARA: The 11th Meeting of Pakistan-Turkey High-Level Military Dialogue Group (HLMDG), successfully concluded with the signing of a landmark agreement for Transfer of Thirty-Four (34) T-37 Aircraft and Spares to Pakistan on Gratis basis. T-37 is a Jet Trainer and Light-Attack Aircraft and Turkey on Pakistan’s desire of acquiring the aircraft extended the courtesy of 34 Aircrafts and Spares to Pakistan.

The signing of the agreement took place between Director General Defence Procurement Maj Gen Naveed Ahmed and Chief of Logistics Turkey Maj Gen Serdar Gulbas. A Joint Communique from both Pakistan and Turkish side was signed by Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak, Secretary Defense and Gen Yasar GULER, Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff.

Defense Secretary Lt. Gen (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak during his visit highlighted Pakistan’s Defense Capability and Military Capacity and Requirements in the current Global Perspective. Secretary paid felicitations on democracy initiatives of Tayyip Erodogan and highlighted the exemplary brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey. He said, “Pakistan desires to further translate these relations into strategic cooperation, signifying strategic importance of our relations”. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation at regional and multinational fora including UN, OIC, ECO and D-8.

Secretary Defense Lt General (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak while expressing his views in High Level Military Dialogue Group (HLMDG) on Regional and Global security said that both working groups did considerable work to review progress on decisions that are taken in last HLMDG meeting as well as new agenda relating to Politico-Military Matters and Defense Industry Cooperation. Secretary expressed the desire to further expand cooperation between defense industries and Trg from strategic to joint venture levels. On the occasion he also took the opportunity to thank Turkish defense industry for support in Naval, Air and Communication Systems.

Secretary Defense Lt General (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak observed that 11th Pakistan-Turkey HLMDG Meeting has proved very successful and expressed satisfaction over unanimity of views on the subject negotiated and finalized.
