KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Wednesday directed all police officials to prepare response teams under Muharram Contingency Plan and ensure the deployment of commandos, police constables, reserve police and officials in order to avoid any unwanted situation during Ashura in the metropolis.
IGP issued these directives to all officials concerned while reviewing Muharram Contingency Plan 2015 for 8th of Muharram i-e on October 22 at his office today.
He further directed officials to ensure deployment of heavy contingents of police, fire brigade vehicles, ambulances and vehicle cranes along all mourning processions' routes in order to avoid any untoward incident.
The IGP said police officials should keep an eye on all mourning procession routes, water stalls, medical camps, hotels, guest houses and other residential places in the city. He urged them to ensure at the police station level the proper identification of outsiders who are being accommodated in hotels and other residents during the Ashura.
He further directed to establish police emergency camps along mourning procession routes so as to tackle any unwanted situation on urgent basis.
At least 568 Majalis, 179 mourning processions, and more than 33 Waiz sessions will be organized on 8th Muharram in different areas of Karachi as per the Karachi Police report presented at the meeting. The Karachi Police officials assured IGP Sindh that they had already made plans to deploy the massive police force, including SRP and RRF police to ensure better security.
