PM Nawaz Sharif met the US Vice President





WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held a breakfast meeting with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden at his residence in Washington DC.


The Prime Minister was joined by the Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz; Finance Minister, Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar; Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan; Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif; SAPM, Mr. Tariq Fatemi, and Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani.

Both sides reviewed their bilateral relationship and discussed issues of mutual interest. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif apprised the Vice President of his government’s priorities and policies. He informed the Vice President about the important economic milestones achieved by the Government over last two years.

The two leaders also discussed regional political and security situation and Pak-U.S cooperation in the war on terrorism. They reaffirmed their commitment to remain closely engaged to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

Both leaders discussed the Prime Minister’s initiative of a peaceful neighborhood and in this context underscored the significance of normalization of Pakistan-India relations through the resolution of all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister apprised the Vice President of India’s destabilizing role in the region, including frequent violations on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary which was unprecedented during last six decades. It not only undermined the war on terrorism but was also detrimental to the regional security and stability.

The status of Pak-U.S bilateral cooperation in different spheres also came under discussion and both leaders agreed on the need to intensify this cooperation. They agreed on the need to closely coordinate for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Vice President Biden acknowledged Pakistan’s positive and crucial role in the war against terrorism and reaffirmed U.S commitment to continue helping Pakistan in achieving their shared interests.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is on an official visit to the United States on the invitation of President Obama.
